what is closed circuit cooling Tower?

A closed-circuit cooling tower is a type of heat rejection equipment that cools a process fluid without exposing it directly to the outside air. It acts as a combination of a heat exchanger and an open cooling tower into one, self-contained unit

How It Works: Two Separate Circuits

The key to its operation is the physical separation between the process fluid and the cooling air, which creates two distinct fluid circuits:

  1. The Internal (Process) Circuit: The fluid you need to cool (like water or a glycol solution) flows through a sealed coil inside the tower. This loop is closed, so the fluid is never exposed to the atmosphere.
  2. The External (Spray) Circuit: To remove the heat from the coil, a separate spray water system continuously recirculates water over the outside of the coil. At the same time, a fan pulls air through the tower. Heat is transferred from the fluid in the internal circuit, through the coil wall, to the spray water. As a portion of this spray water evaporates, it carries the heat away into the atmosphere
