Induced Draft Closed Circuit Cooling Tower

  • Design: The fan is located at the top of the unit, pulling air vertically upward through the coil/fill section and exhausting it at high velocity.
  • Characteristics:
    • More uniform air distribution across the coil.
    • Better plume abatement (due to high-velocity, turbulent discharge).
    • Fan motor is exposed to the hot, moist exhaust stream.
    • Classic “cooling tower” appearance.
  • Common Configurations:
    • Counterflow: Air flows vertically up, while spray water flows down. This is the most common and efficient induced draft design.
    • Crossflow: Air flows horizontally in, while spray water flows down. Often has a lower pump head requirement.
