The goal of a cooling coil heat exchangers is to cool and/or dehumidify an air stream by passing the air stream over a finned set of tubes that have cooler glycol (or similar liquid) flowing through them. In principle the exact same physical heat exchanger can be used to heat an air stream.
The cooling coil heat exchangers is a particular case of the Heat Exchanger modeling presented in section Heat Exchangers with and without Dehumidification. The water (or similar liquid) passing through the cooling coil heat exchangers is single phase, and the humid air is assumed to be moist enough that condensation on the heat exchanger surfaces is possible. Therefore, the partially-wet/partially-dry analysis of section cooling coil heat exchangers Single-phase on working fluid side must be used. The use of this analysis still allows for the possibility that the coil is fully wet or fully dry.

Replacement coils for existing air handling units or ducted systems is the most sensible and cost effective way of extending the life of existing air plant. The replacement of coils in these systems also, in most cases, increases the performance and thus reduces running costs.
Legislation also has an impact on existing air plant systems which sometimes requires the replacement of coils within the system. Whatever your coil requirements are, TIPO are well suited to help you through your refurbishment project.
TIPO Coil Technical Department provides a replacement design & manufacture service that ensures your project goes as smoothly as possible. We make every effort to match as closely as possible the dimensions of the existing coils when designing replacement coils that are not TIPO manufactured to ensure minimal rework on site.
