Key Components of the System Genset Cooling System
- Cooling Tower:
- Fill Media: A large surface area (plastic sheets) over which the hot water is distributed to maximize air-water contact for evaporation.
- Fan(s): Large axial or centrifugal fans that draw or force air through the tower.
- Water Distribution System: Nozzles that spray the hot water evenly over the fill media.
- Drift Eliminators: Baffles that capture water droplets in the exhaust air to prevent water loss.
- Basin: The collection tank at the bottom of the tower that holds the cooled water.
- Heat Exchanger: As described above.
- Pumps: Two sets are needed: one for the primary engine loop and one for the secondary tower loop.
- Water Treatment System: Absolutely critical. The open tower water is susceptible to scaling, corrosion, and biological growth (like Legionella). Continuous chemical treatment is mandatory.
