What is Closed Circuit Cooling Tower

Closed Circuit Cooling Tower (also known as an Evaporative Cooler or Fluid Cooler) is a type of heat exchanger that cools down an internal process fluid (like water or a water-glycol mixture) without ever exposing it directly to the outside air or atmosphere.

Think of it like the radiator in your car:

  • Your car’s engine coolant flows through a closed loop of pipes inside the radiator.
  • Air blows across the outside of those pipes, carrying the heat away.
  • The coolant never mixes with the air; it stays contained within its own system.

A closed circuit cooling tower operates on the same principle but uses evaporation to dramatically enhance the cooling effect, much like a traditional (“open”) cooling tower.
