Working Principle of Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger

  • One fluid (usually the hotter or more corrosive one) flows inside the tubes.
  • The other fluid flows around the tubes in the shell.
  • Heat is transferred from the hotter fluid to the cooler one through the tube walls.

Advantages of Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger

  • High-pressure and high-temperature resistance
  •  Easy to clean and maintain (especially with removable tube bundles)
  • Can handle large heat loads efficiently
  • Suitable for a wide range of fluids (liquids, gases, and vapours)
