Components of a Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger

  1. Shell – Outer cylindrical vessel that holds the tube bundle.
  2. Tubes – Small-diameter pipes through which one fluid flows (can be straight or U-shaped).
  3. Tube Sheets – Plates that hold the tubes in place at both ends.
  4. Baffles – Plates inside the shell that direct fluid flow across the tubes to enhance heat transfer.
  5. Inlet & Outlet Nozzles – Entry and exit points for shell-side and tube-side fluids.
  6. Front & Rear Head (End Caps) – Covers that allow tube-side fluid to enter and exit.
