Forced Draft Cross Flow Cooling Tower
A Forced Draft Cross Flow Cooling Tower is a less common but specialized design where fans are positioned at the air inlet to push air horizontally across the falling water, maintaining the perpendicular crossflow configuration but with different operational characteristics.
Air-Water Path:
- Hot Water Distribution: Flows from elevated basins downward through fill
- Air Forcing: Fans at side air inlets push ambient air horizontally into tower
- Crossflow Contact: Air travels perpendicular to falling water stream
- Air Exit: Warm air naturally rises and exits through top opening (no exit fan)
- Collection: Cooled water gathers in basin
