Primary Applications of Brazed Plate Heat Exchanger in HVAC/R
Brazed plate heat exchangers are ubiquitous in modern systems due to their efficiency and compact size.
- Evaporators: In water chillers and heat pumps, the refrigerant boils (evaporates) inside the BPHE, absorbing heat from the chilled water loop.
- Condensers: In the same units, the hot refrigerant gas rejects heat to a cooling tower water loop, condensing back into a liquid inside the BPHE.
- Desuperheaters/Economizers: Used to recover heat from superheated refrigerant to preheat domestic water or another fluid, increasing system efficiency.
- Domestic Hot Water (DHW) Generation: A separate BPHE is often used to instantly heat potable water using the building’s primary hot water or condenser loop, ensuring no mixing between the systems.
- Refrigeration Systems: Commonly used in a variety of refrigeration applications for their efficiency and compact design.
