FILL CONFIGURATION & ORIENTATION
Based on Air/Water Flow:
- Crossflow Fill:
- Designed for horizontal airflow.
- Fill is typically vertical or slightly angled.
- Water drips down through the fill while air flows horizontally across it.
- Often uses splash fill or specially designed crossflow film fill.
- Counterflow Fill:
- Designed for vertical upward airflow.
- Fill blocks are stacked vertically.
- Water flows down while air flows up through the same passages.
- Almost exclusively uses film fill for maximum efficiency.
Fill Block Geometry:
- Corrugation Pattern: Angle, height, and spacing of the corrugations determine surface area, air pressure drop, and water distribution.
- Flute Size: Smaller flutes = more surface area but higher fouling risk.
