Plate Fins
- Description: A stack of flat, corrugated metal plates (fins) is assembled with flat separator bars. The tubes are then expanded into holes punched through the entire fin stack.
- Bond: Mechanical bond created by tube expansion.
- Advantages:
- Extremely compact and lightweight for a given surface area.
- Allows for multiple fluid passes in a very small core.
Finned Tube Types
| Type | Bonding Method | Typical Materials | Key Advantages | Common Applications |
| L-Finned | Mechanical (Wrapped) | Al on Cu/CS | Low Cost, High Fin Ratio | HVAC, Air Conditioning |
| Embedded (G) | Mechanical (Locked) | Al on Cu/CS | Good Thermal Cyclability | Process Heaters, Heat Recovery |
| Welded | Metallurgical (Welded) | Steel/SS on CS/SS | Highest Strength, High Temp/Pressure | Refineries, Power Boilers |
