Plume abated cooling towers

If you require plume abatement to address permitting, safety, or liability issues, then Cooling Tower Depot has the solution for you.

The requirement for plume abatement is becoming more common today. Customers require plume abatement to address permitting, safety, or liability issues associated with either Greenfield or existing plant expansion projects.

A plume abated tower is essentially a hybrid or wet/dry cooling tower design. The tower contains the wet evaporative section to cool the circulating water and the dry section to abate or reduce the visible plume. Plume is the result of the wet evaporative process that generates heated saturated air. When the saturated air exits the cooling tower and comes into contact with the cooler ambient air temperatures, then condensation occurs, which creates a visible plume.

In order to abate or reduce the plume of a cooling tower, the saturated air that is created by the wet evaporative process must be dried out before exiting the tower. CTD achieves this by extending the plenum height of the tower and installing fin-tube bundles into the side of the plenum, where dry air can be drawn through the fin-tube bundles heated and then introduced into the plenum area. Once the warm dry air has entered the plenum area, it comes into contact with structural features that have been installed to facilitate the mixing of the saturated air and the warm dry air. The effect of mixing these two air masses essentially dries out the saturated air, so that when it exits the tower and comes into contact with the cooler ambient air temperatures, the result is either a reduced plume or no visible plume.
